Yu Wenjin expressed gratitude to the Consulate-General of Laos in Nanning for its long-standing support to GXU, and briefed the guests on the university’s training of Lao students and on its cooperation projects with Lao universities and institutions. He noted that GXU currently has more than 200 Lao students enrolled, accounting for 24% of all its international students from ASEAN countries. The university attaches great importance to the education and management of international students: it offers a series of special lectures for new international students on campus culture and university rules and regulations, improves its academic early-warning and support mechanisms, and provides targeted tutoring for students facing academic difficulties so as to help them complete their studies successfully. He expressed the hope that the Consulate-General of Laos in Nanning will continue to serve as a bridge, promote deeper practical cooperation between GXU and the National University of Laos and other institutions, advance faculty and student exchanges, joint talent cultivation and research collaboration, and recommend more outstanding Lao students to study at GXU, so as to continuously consolidate the foundation of China–Laos educational cooperation.

Vongpano Sipaseuth thanked GXU for its long-term and devoted care for Lao students, and spoke highly of the university’s proposals for China–Laos educational cooperation. He said that Laos urgently needs a large number of professional and technical personnel for its development, and that education and talent cultivation are of great significance to the country. The Consulate-General of Laos in Nanning will give full support to the training of Lao students, implement the important instructions of the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries on educational and talent cooperation, actively work to translate the cooperation ideas discussed at this meeting into concrete action, and sincerely invite GXU to send delegations to the National University of Laos and other institutions, so as to jointly produce more practical cooperation outcomes and help build an all-weather China–Laos community with a shared future for the new era.

After the talks, Vongpano Sipaseuth and his delegation met with all the Lao students studying at GXU, asked them in detail about their study and life on campus, and listened carefully to their views. He encouraged the students to cherish the valuable opportunity to study abroad, devote themselves to their professional studies, strictly observe Chinese laws and regulations and the university’s rules, support and help one another, study diligently and strive for progress, and grow into young ambassadors of China–Laos friendship.

Leading officials of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange (International Student Management Service Center) of GXU attended the meeting.
